Pigmentation spots are an anarchic accumulation of melanin on the surface of the skin, on the social areas most exposed to the sun: face, neck, hands, décolleté.
It is a defense mechanism of the skin against free radicals generated by UV rays from the sun.
There are 4 types of pigment spots:
- Hyperpigmentation due to acne: pimples that are exposed to the sun (UV) can create brown spots.
- Hormonal hyperpigmentation: This is the pregnancy mask that affects some pregnant women or pigment spots caused by medications that are photosensitizing. They cause an uncontrolled production of melanin when the skin is exposed to the sun.
- Hyperpigmentation due to sun exposure: These spots can appear at any age. This is often the case when the skin has "used up" all of its "sun capital" due to prolonged and direct exposure to the sun over the course of a lifetime.
- Hyperpigmentation due to aging: These spots generally appear from the age of 40. They are due to the natural aging of the skin and activated by sun exposure. With age, the skin becomes thinner and cell renewal slows down. This produces small brown spots that are more numerous and more visible.
Advice :
- Avoid direct and prolonged exposure to the sun,
- Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun.
- Use a moisturizer with built-in sun protection during the summer.
- Gently exfoliating your skin with an enzymatic and chemical exfoliant will fade dark spots. For long-lasting results, there are mechanical treatments like Bloomea, which can significantly fade dark spots through treatment.
- Use specific moisturizers to limit hyperpigmentation with active ingredients that will control excessive melanin production.
