Oily, combination, normal, or oily skin? Knowing your skin type is essential for choosing the right skincare and treatments. Yes, but how do you know your skin type? Discover all our tips and advice to help you determine your skin type.
“Knowing your skin is taking care of it.”
Our skin is a living organ that is constantly changing due to many factors, such as: pollution, stress, tobacco, poor diet, menstrual cycle, hormones, alcohol, limescale, old age, air conditioning, sun, heating... We must therefore adapt our care and cosmetic treatments according to the needs of our skin, to enable it to better resist all these harmful factors, and to protect it well.
Although it is possible to determine your skin type by observing yourself regularly, only a specialist will be able to establish a true skin diagnosis. At Bloomea, we analyze your skin type precisely, while giving you the right steps to take care of it naturally. This diagnosis precisely measures the following different criteria:
There's an easy trick to identify your skin type in less than 5 minutes, at home. To find out which category you fall into, follow these 4 steps:
Step 1: Clean your face thoroughly
Start by thoroughly cleansing your skin. Cleanse your face with a pH-neutral, soap-free foaming gel to preserve your skin's natural defenses. Finish by applying a little cornflower hydrosol to your face. Let your skin breathe for at least two hours without applying any product so that its natural defenses aren't altered.
Step 2: Stick the adhesive tapes
Apply the strips of adhesive tape to the T-zone, i.e., the forehead, nose, chin, and cheeks. Wait about 15 seconds.
Step 3: Remove the strips
After 15 seconds, you can remove your strips. But be careful not to tear your skin! Do this gently.
Step 4: Examine the tapes
Observe your strips in good light to be able to define your skin type as accurately as possible.
You don't see anything on the strips, there are no particles or oily film;
There is an oily film on all the adhesive strips;
There are slight particles on the T-zone strips.
There are small white particles on all the strips.
It's important to know that a skin diagnosis isn't fixed; it's important to monitor it regularly. Skin evolves and changes constantly throughout our lives and seasons. It can change depending on age, hormones, climate, external aggressions, eating habits, smoking, alcohol, etc.
Normal skin:
Normal skin is the skin everyone dreams of. You have normal skin if your skin texture is smooth, comfortable, and luminous. Normal skin doesn't shine, feel tight, or turn red when the temperature changes. Its water and oil levels are perfectly balanced. Although your skin is normal, it may change over the years. Therefore, it is important to prevent the effects of aging using anti-aging care and treatments.
Dry skin:
You have dry skin if your skin texture is fine, tight, and lacks radiance. Dry skin lacks lipids and water, making it permanently dehydrated and fragile. Dry skin will need nourishing care and treatments to revive its complexion.
Oily skin:
You have oily skin if your skin texture is uneven, your pores are dilated and visible. Oily skin has a shiny appearance and is often prone to various imperfections (pores, pimples, acne, blackheads, etc.). Stress and external aggressions such as pollution, heating, air conditioning, cosmetics, tobacco, alcohol, and the sun increase sebum secretion and make the skin more oily. Oily skin will need skincare products that mattify and fill in skin irregularities.
Combination skin:
You have combination skin if your skin texture is oily and uneven along the midline (forehead, nose, chin). While the skin on your temples and cheeks is dry and has a smooth, even appearance. Combination skin will require care and treatments that combine moisturizing, soothing, and sebum-regulating active ingredients.
Sensitive skin:
Sensitive skin is highly reactive skin that is prone to itching, tingling, prickling, etc. This type of skin can sometimes be accompanied by redness. This sensitivity can appear due to several factors such as: stress, menopause, sun, limescale, heating, air conditioning, menstrual cycle, pollution, certain cosmetics, etc. The beauty routine for hyper-reactive skin must include products that are both very gentle and moisturizing for the epidermis.
Mature skin:
Mature skin is skin that can show wrinkles, fine lines, pigmented spots, more or less marked sagging skin... Anti-aging treatments enriched with hyaluronic acid and vitamin C allow mature skin to create collagen and look younger for longer.
